With 33 States authorizing the sale of medical marijuana and 11 states permitting adult recreational use, the cannabis industry is an emerging force for revitalization in urban areas. Many states, to include New Jersey, seek to capitalize on pot’s potential to reverse social injustices by creating opportunities in communities that have been disproportionately impacted by enforcement of drug laws. This, coupled with siting facilities in population centers, results in brownfield sites being targeted for use in marijuana enterprises.
