Ms. Hickman has 30 years of experience in environmental education, compliance, remediation, site redevelopment, and grant administration. As Senior Advisor, Ms. Hickman provides business development and technical leadership in the areas of federal grant administration, and environmental assessment, remediation, and compliance. In addition to her position at Environmental Standards, Ms. Hickman currently assists serves as the Executive Director of the West Virginia Land Stewardship Corporation, a nonprofit 501(c)3 created by the West Virginia Legislature., with a mission to ensure long-term stewardship of environmental liabilities and enable economic redevelopment at formerly used properties.

Previously, Ms. Hickman served as the Director of the Division of Land Restoration within the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) where she directed agency remediation and reclamation programs, including Brownfields/Voluntary Remediation, CERCLA, RCRA Corrective Action, Leaking Aboveground and Underground Storage Tanks (LAST and LUST), Landfill Closure Assistance, bond forfeiture mining reclamation, Pollution Prevention and Open Dump, recycling, tire reclamation, and beautification programs. Responsibilities included management of 95 employees and an annual budget of $130 million.

Ms. Hickman presented at the National Brownfields Conference on redevelopment of Brownfields properties for reuses related to the shale gas industry, and on the role of partnerships and collaboration in redeveloping Brownfields. Ms. Hickman presented at the West Virginia Brownfields Conference annually 2012-2021. Topics included regulatory updates; establishment of the West Virginia Land Stewardship Corporation and development of its land bank; the Freedom Industries spill that resulted in contamination to the drinking water source for over 300,000 West Virginia citizens; training for West Virginia Licensed Remediation Specialists; use of brownfields grant funding on for remediation sites that include demolition activities and for reuse planning; and due diligence. Ms. Hickman was the keynote speaker at the 2016 West Virginia Educational Conference on Litter Control & Solid Waste Management.
